Why Jesus Was Born

I’m going to take the next few minutes to talk about why Jesus was born.

First, you must understand that God is one being, in three persons. Scripture describes the divine relationship shared between God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; Trinity, as love. God knew perfect relationship before the creation of the world.

Human beings were not created so that God could have someone to love. God did not want or need someone to love.

We were created so that we can experience and partake in the relationship that exists between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. And that relationship is described as love.

God created us to resemble Him. The origin of humanity is love. The root of all creation is love. Understanding God as The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit means understanding that we are made from love, for love, and to love. We were created for the joy of sharing in the fellowship of God. God wants us to be love as He is love.

Love can only be the reason for creation if love existed before creation. Love can only exist within relationship. Since love can only exist in relationship, relationship had to exist before creation. It existed with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Because of love, human beings were created with a free will to choose and placed in the perfect environment for love; the Garden. God is now their Father, and human beings are now His children. Humanity is to spread this perfect environment for love throughout the rest of the earth.

But, by making a wrong choice and being disobedient in the Garden, sin entered the earth and corrupted it. For the first time, humanity experiences suffering.

As a result of sin, we lost our natural ability to be in relationship with God our Father. Although we are beloved by the one true lover of the universe, we lack the natural ability to love God, our Father back.

We were made with this longing for love and to be loved, however, because of the sin nature that now resides in us, we are selfish beings who are unable to know or share love on our own.

Almost all of our problems with relating to God stem from a flawed view of His nature and character.

The Creator and just Judge of the Universe, by His own free and sovereign choice, decided to take upon Himself the judgment of sin that, of rights, should have fallen upon all of humanity. God wants His relationship back with His children which was stolen by sin.

There may have been many ways to redeem humanity back to Himself, but God choose the way of love.

Moved and concerned with our suffering, hurt by the devastating effects of sin on and in His children, God Himself entered into our suffering as one of us.

Jesus, the Son of God, was born to demonstrate the significance and value God places on humanity. He came to remind us of the reason we were created. To show us our purpose for living and to invite us further into the Trinity unity of God.

God the Son was born as a human being, experienced sin and suffering with us, demonstrated what God’s love looks like, then pays the ultimate price to overcome our suffering and sin.

When we see the demonstration of God's great love through the Son on the cross, and receive His forgiveness, and then put faith in Jesus as the one true God, something supernatural takes place.

God the Holy Spirit lives within us and enables us to enter into the Trinity unity from which we are created, thus empowering us to understand and fulfill the reason for our existence to love and be loved.

As the Holy Spirit pours out more and more of God's love into our hearts, we are enabled to know and love God personally, and empowered to love others the way God loves us.

Our confidence in God the Father's eternal love and acceptance of us is rooted in the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus.

This is why Jesus was born.
